The American Troops project was started in 2003 by John and Millie Evans as a ministry of South Valley Christian Church (San Jose, CA) and a way of showing support to the men and women serving in our military and protecting America. John Evans had served in the Korean War and remembered the joy receiving a simple package made during his deployment.
When the events of September 11, 2001 called many of America's greatest resources – our young men and women – into active service, John & Millie wanted to let our Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, Marines, and Coastguardsmen know their sacrifices and dedication was NOT FORGOTTEN, but is honored and prayed for on a regular basis. Since its founding, ATP has sent tens of thousands of pounds of 'support packages' to our troops, and has sent as many prayers heavenward asking God's hand of PROTECTION to be over our troops and their families.
In 2010, John contracted cancer and reached out to Randy & Diane Duke to continue the American Troops Project. Years earlier, John & Millie had 'adopted' one of the Duke's sons serving in Iraq. In June, 2011 John ETS'd (End Term of Service) on earth and took up permanent residence in Heaven. Randy & Diane Duke continue the oversight of the American Troops Project, with the support of a 7 member Board of Directors, operating under the blessing, authority and governance of Venture Christian Church of Los Gatos, CA.
The American Troops Project is a volunteer outreach and ministry of Venture Christian Church to our troops, and 100% of any donations goes to the troops. We are a volunteer ministry, and this outreach has no paid staff positions, and Venture does not subtract an administrative fee from your gift. The American Troops Project operates as a non-profit 501(c)3 under the auspices of Venture Christian Church of Los Gatos, CA and all donations are tax deductable.
As U.S. and world events change and affect the roles and deployment of our military, we continue to ship 'Support Packages', but are also constantly seeking God's leading in new and needed ways to minister to our Servicemen and women. We constantly strive to live out our tag line and mission statement of 'Serving The Ones Who Serve'.
